Field Trip to the Moon
Friday night we took the boys on a field trip to the moon…sort of. The Tellus Museum opened up their observatory and allowed us to look through their huge telescope. It was the closest I’d ever been to the moon.

Summer Field Trips
Our 8 year-old Caleb has always been fascinated with factories and machines, which means we have to go off the beaten path to foster his passion. This summer took us to two places to entice our budding engineer.

Andrew’s Third Birthday
It was a weekend of trains as Andrew turned three years old. No, it has been the year of trains. Most of his presents were trains. His underwear has trains. He sleeps with trains. He is obsessed. His cousins came over for a little party Saturday night. On Sunday afternoon we took him to the [...]

In Recent News
While on vacation in Alabama this summer, we took a tour of the Mobile Press Register, the daily newspaper from south Alabama. They had just recently added a new press, so we called to see if we could take a look. They were printing while we were there, and it was a fascinating process. After [...]

Caleb & the Miller
We recently spent the weekend in Helen, GA. It’s a quaint little German-esque town about an hour and a half north of Atlanta. One of the highlights of the trip for Caleb was getting to see a real working grist mill.

Field Trippin’: Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Plant
We did something this past Monday that Caleb had been looking forward to for months. We toured the Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Plant in Montgomery, AL. He read a book about how cars were made back in the spring and has wanted to visit a car plant ever since. There was a three month wait for the tour at Hyundai, but finally the big day came. I’m happy to report that it was worth the wait.

Field Trippin’: Water Treatment Facility
My son Caleb has been blessed with more than his fair share of curiosity. Satisfying that curiosity is not always easy. He has a gazillion questions about a gazillion different things. I guess it was about a year ago that he started asking about where the water went when he flushed the toilet. Not wanting to come up with some goofy answer like “Buddy, it went to poo poo heaven”, I began telling him that the water went to the water treatment facility.

Field Trippin’: Air Show
On Saturday I took Caleb to Fort Worth’s Alliance Air Show which featured the Air Force Thunderbirds. I’ve always loved air shows and have always been fascinated by airplanes of all kinds. With 100,000 people in attendance roaming the concrete desert, this was not just an air show, it was an adventure.
